Engine Gasket Question

Post by Idaho Chris »

What is this gasket called on the driver side on the 300 I6 engine? Any recommendations on where to purchase this gasket (and the bolt rubber washers) separately from an entire engine gasket kit? Thanks!

Is that the valve cover gasket? Your best bet is probably your local AutoZone, NAPA, etc. If not, then check with Rock Auto, LMC Trucks, or NPD Link. Finally, Amazon or ebay.

No, not the valve cover gasket. It is on the side of the block below the head behind the distributor. I am presuming it gives access to the lifters, but since I have never seen a 300 apart I do not know. If I can figure out what to call it I can search for a gasket...

Thank you Joe! I knew they couldn't be called Lifter Covers since my search with that term yielded zilch...

When you re putting in the new gasket and donuts, be sure to “eyeball” the side cover for flatness. They can get distorted from over tightening and a little careful “massaging” of the cover to get flat and true can go a long ways to prevent any leaking.
