302 rebuild bolt kit

Post by SportsterSport »

I have a 1991 302 that came out of a wrecked f150. I am in the process of striping it down and rebuild to switch to carb and put in my 76 f100. Going from EFI to carb there are a lot of stud/bolt combos on intake, water pump ext. I don't need. I have seen a few bolt kits online like arp but it is over or close to 100.00 for bolts. I would think I could pick them up at a fastenall for cheaper. Anyone found a list of grade/sizes for a bolt kit? External is the main ones I will need. Intake, water pump, pulleys, flywheel, bell housing ext. I am new to the forums but thanks for all the good info!

There are a ton of specific bolts. Honestly I'd spend an hour on a junkyards engine pile if you really needed them before buying new. Factory stuff is higher quality versus hardware store grade.

PS, I'd also keep the EFI as it's simpler to run and not as finicky as a carb.

I bought an ARP kit for my FE and I wouldn't do it again. The kit was pretty generic and at the price they charge I don't think I should have to be sending bolts back and forth in the mail.

I bought a non-ARP bolt kit, and I wouldn't do it again. It was just the external bolts (valve cover, distributor hold-down, etc). Nothing that had to hold any real weight, but most of the bolts were too short. I probably couldn't use half the kit.

I bought this kit for my '64 Fairlane 289. Stainless bolts, studs, nuts, flat washers and lock washers. Everything packaged and labeled by component. Only $34.95 for the whole kit. https://alloyboltz.com/product/small-bl ... olt-kit-d/ Everything was a perfect fit. I still had to get just a couple of other bolts, longer, because my Fairlane was factory A/C and P/S equipped and had to substitute a couple of water pump bolts for the application. Everything else was correct. Other kits available fir other applications. Another $35 for stainless ARP bell housing bolts https://alloyboltz.com/product/sbf-grad ... utomatics/ or you can order individual bolts, etc. Just call them and tell them what you need. Read the insert! Stainless bolts require a different torque spec and copper based anti-seize. I've bought a similar set for my truck's 351W. I highly recommend them.

Fastenal won't have anything automotive either-mainly construction.
These guys have been around a long....time.I always wanted one of their bolt sets but could never come off of the dime to get one:
Keep in mind you'll want nothing short of Grade-8 on the engine.

AMK

Can be had from the Mustang suppliers, you should be able to buy kits separately for what you need (IE intake manifold, timing cover). I’m not sure they will be cheaper than ARP, but its another option.

The kit for the FE is about half the price of the ARP kit. Looks like it's specifically for the FE too. Thanks foe the link DuckRyder.

AMK has the best hardware you can get. I wish I would have discovered them sooner.
