Hi, rebuilt 302, I'm having trouble keeping gas to the carb. 2 clean fuel filters, the original ford on pump and a clear filter at carb. I've checked the lines for flow to the fuel pump, flow from the pump at the carb with and without the clear filter, a new fuel pump and filter. After pump replacement the clear filter stayed 3/4 full, but now if drive for 10 miles the filter is just about empty and have to more less idle or low rpm to get truck home. when dissembled cab for paint I removed the tank and cleaned, no debris of any sorts then or now in the filters. truck has 3/4 fuel in too. what is the unit in the tank for? could there be a problem there?
any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

It could be the screen in the tank gets plugged on occasion.70xlt wrote: what is the unit in the tank for? could there be a problem there?
If possible the next time it acts up try asap to disconnect the fuel line at the carb and hook a hose to the line and into a container,
and crank the engine over (A helper would be a good idea).
The pump should have a strong flow , if not the tank screen may be the problem.
I've "cleaned" my tank before and had the new gas break loose old varnish and plug the screen , after awhile.

Be careful not to spill any gas around the distributor , one spark and it could go woof !!

its rebuilt engine with new 600 eldebrock, I have a clear inline fuel filter 2" b4 carb for break in period, after running for 10 miles there is little gas in clear fuel filter, time b4 last night I pulled the line off feeding the inline filter with much inline gas pressure b4 inline filter, would this be vapor locking? local mechanic suggested changing fuel pump which I did but still having same prob?? today I'm gonna try blowing the lines out back at tank, they are original.

A few years ago, I was working on the engine. I had disconnected the fuel line to the carb, and forgot to hook it up again. Of course, when I cranked the engine, it wasn't getting fuel, so it wouldn't start. Instead, it was dumping gas on top of the block. It finally backfired out the carb, and I had a small fire in my driveway. It melted a few lines, but I was surprised how small the fire was! I guess I was expecting a huge fireball. Truck and owner are both going strong, but I don't suggest a repeat of my mistake. It tends to raise your blood pressure.
