push rod or valve "rattling"

Post by Redcrew71 »

soooo....any idea what it might be?
71 f250 360. running fine. then all of a sudden rattling like a couple peas in a pop can..like a diesel...lol. drive a bit no loss of power just noise. then all of a sudden surging...immediate loss of power then big back fire and engine quit. coasted to stop. tried to turn key nothing.

had it towed home will look under valve covers tomorrow. push rods were bend and missing when i got it previous. I replaced and was a good truck.
Any idea?

well...believe it was the starter solnoid. what i heard was it shorting itself. after taking off valve covers no damage.
turned over key and all good except the truck would not stop when key turned off.

off to get new solnoid

You might have a bad starter soleniod, but if it's not stopping when you turn the key off, there's probably going to be something else. After all, the starter solenoid is for the starter. Do you have something else coming off of the solenoid?

Let us know what you find.

Start solenoid puts 12v to the ignition when pulled in. Remove the red / blue (I think) line from the small lug while it's running with the key turned off and see if it dies.
