Aux Fuel tank filler hose

Post by Portager »

Hello Everyone,

Looking for a lead on parts or advice on replacing my Aux tank fuel lines. The lines are badly cracked and won't help me pass my future safety.

If you've replaced something similar where did you find the parts?

Thanks for your help.

BTW - the truck sat for 5 years or so. I've since pressure washed the bed just didn't have a photo of it since. Embarrassed by the state of the bed there :)
Also you can see the bullet hole under the window. The only story that I got was that "someone took a shot at the farmer".....

None available anywhere, I've checked. What I did on my 69 f-250 with the factory auxiliary tank was to extend the metal portion of the pipe by welding on a piece of exhaust tubing I got from Auto Zone. Then I was able to use bulk straight fuel hose from Napa. Worked great. Good luck.

You can get the aux fuel line for later trucks, but they're too short. You can get longer straight tubing, but it doesn't have the 90-degree bend at the end for the tank. I'll be running into the same problem when I put my aux tank in. I think the solution is a mix of both - extending the pipe like Busboy suggested, and getting the later aux tank tubing. Make sure that whatever tubing you get, that it's rated for gasoline (radiator hose isn't :-/ ).

Thanks Joseph and Busboy,

That's what I was afraid of when I couldn't find it the catalogues.
I'm only using the in-cab tank right now because I haven't given the aux tanks a good inspection or cleaning, so I may ending just capping the tanks or using radiator hose to get it through a safety.

On a related note, were there originally steel pieces that covered these hoses? Any idea what that part is called? Did these rust out, or get in the way and get removed?

Thanks

You can buy gas filler hose by the foot. Check Rock Auto or summit. I bought a 4' section from one of them. Can't remember but it wasn't hard to find. I don't think that filler neck on the passenger side is factory.

I have the newer aux hose, and there is a bent steel plate, kind of in the shape of a squished 'C', that protects the filler hose and breather hose where they go between the frame rail and the bed. The rest of the hoses are protected by the tank itself, the tank shield, and the truck body.

I bought a fill hose from LMC, it came with the shield. It was on the same page as the gas tank.
