Vacuum diagram for 75 360 FE?

Post by Mechanon »

Can't find this diagram anywhere. I have the full set of shop manuals and it doesn't seem to exist there or in the Haynes. Apparently there was a user on 'the other' forum who had them, but it looks like his account and all his posts / photo galleries were deleted. Just trying to clean up the engine bay and get rid of all non-essentials. Thanks!

I don't have a diagram, but the basics are for the brake booster to go to intake manifold (or back of the carb base, if you have one), PCV to go to intake manifold (or front of carb base, if you have one), auto trans to go to intake manifold, distributor to ported vacuum on carb. If your dizzy has two ports, and you want to keep it stock, I THINK the front port goes to ported vacuum, and the top/side port goes to manifold vacuum. If you have more than that, let us know. I like to keep my vacuum lines as short as possible

I'm not sure if you have any smog stuff on your truck, though. The earlier trucks didn't have much.

Thanks for the reply. The truck has the whole smog pump / thermactor system, EGR, PCV, etc. Anyway here's where I am - the truck was running ok when I bought it, it just felt tired since it was all original and had never been maintained. I brought it somewhere for a (carb) tuneup, fluid change, plugs, cap and rotor, etc - just to get it done since I don't know much about these carbs and have too much going on right now to deal with it. Well, I got it back running worse than when I dropped it off. So that's a lesson learnt. Have a carb rebuild kit coming in the mail, but what I found was a loose hose coming off a (temperature controlled?) vacuum switch on the intake manifold, and can't figure out what it's supposed to go to. The switch has a top and bottom port. The bottom hose goes to a little plastic header that splits off in 5 other directions. The top hose is the one that's detached. I just can't believe there's no vacuum diagram around for this thing anywhere.

Oh also, here's the issue I'm having now. On a cold start, it'll start and run for about 5 seconds and then die. That might happen twice before it starts and "runs." Almost like the choke is not engaging? Then after 'warming up' for a minute, If I try to give it anything but the tiniest amount of gas, it'll bog / backfire & stall out. I have to feather almost impossibly after going around a corner or stopping at a stop sign.

Like I said, I have a carb kit in the mail so it'll be a crash course then. I'll put everything back to factory settings and start from square one. That's why I'm looking for a vacuum diagram.

Was the "other site" FTE or our sister site http://fordification.net/ (which is dedicated to the 73-79 dent era trucks? :hmm:

It was FTE. Your sister site seems to be sort of abandoned, and I didn't find what I was looking for there either.

One of the things you will find (depending on location/situation) is that nobody knows how to work on carbed vehicles anymore. The best part is that this gives you the chance to learn how your truck engine works. At this point, I've done just about everything. I'm not an expert, but I am THE expert on MY truck. I have learned so much about ignition advance, and engine vacuum, and auto transmissions. I've also learned that nobody knows how to work on a vehicle that doesn't have an OBD-II port, and if you do a Google search for a C6 transmission, you'll get a ton of hits for Corvette sites!

Sorry, no help, just the brutal truth.

Yeah it's a bummer. I know my way around motorcycle and small engine carbs & used to be a machine mechanic. Having it tuned up was just a matter of convenience. The real shame of it is the dude is a pretty well respected classic Mustang specialist. Either way, what's done is done so I'm finished barking up that tree. Got my rebuild kit so I'm gonna dive in this weekend.

BTW, you can hide irrelevant search results by doing the search like this: C6 transmission -corvette

You might try the distributor vacuum lines here:

Yeah, I know it says electrical, but there are some vacuum line stuff in there, too. They're only for 1972, but they might give you some pointers on your system.

Your "irrelevant search results" would also include narrowing it down by year and or component. I used "1971 Ford truck PVS schematic" and believe this will help. And just to add there are maybe less than 5% of our bump era trucks that are still around that are Cali pollution compliant, (you could remove 90% of those vacuum lines and the truck will run fine-even better not having the vacuum leaks sources).
Anyway...the smaller device with three lines, (screwed into your intake manifold) is the ported vacuum switch. When the engine is cold it sends the vacuum source for the timing from the intake manifold. Once the engine has warmed up it then switches ports to send the vacuum signal from the carburetor base. I'm not sure of the device that has five hoses but see one schematic here that has it:

And here's the search that might help:
