Carburetors Spacers
Hi guys.
I have a question about carburetor spacers. I’ll have a Holley 4160 setting on a Edelbrock performer RPM and would like to put a 1” spacer plate under it with vacuum port for brake booster. Would the spacer help/hurt the performance? Also, if I do the spacer, which would be the better option 4 holes or open ?
Engine:
Freshly built 390 – about 9.5 to 1 compression – Edelbrock RPM intake - stock heads with some pocket porting – flat lifters - C6 tranny – stock converter
Thanks for your time..
Ron

Re: Carburetors Spacers
Unless you are trying to get more top end power (not usually on a pickup) you don't want to much of a spacer on a performer rpm. But if that is what you are trying to do you won't hurt anything.

Re: Carburetors Spacers
Hi,
I run a four hole 1" spacer with Vac port just as you describe on my RPM intake.
From my reading, the spacer effectively increases the length on the runners of the intake... this increases throttle response at lower RPM. Can I "feel" a difference? no....
I mainly installed the spacer for the vac port.
Take care,
Lee

M-100, thanks for the input. mostly for the vac port for the brake booster but don't want any adverse effects from the spacer.M-100 wrote:Unless you are trying to get more top end power (not usually on a pickup) you don't want to much of a spacer on a performer rpm. Re: Carburetors Spacers
On a truck definitely stick to the 4 hole spacer to help with low end performance 4 hole spacers are for torque and throttle response as Lee stated. Open spacers are for plenum volume when you have massive heads. Also i like my phenolic spacers to keep the carb cool but since you need a port i don't think you go with a phenolic. Make sure to run a thick gasket to help keep heat transfer down.

The cj parts one would work it just has open section to pull from open plenum on the vacuum.
However I like that trans dap one it's phenolic which means it will isolate the heat. To me less heat in the carb from the engine the much more better your gonna be!!! I'd go with that one as it checks all my boxes...

Thanks Manny, I agree and the new spacer is on the manifold as we speak!

Re: Carburetors Spacers
Not yet, still have to mount the radiator and hookup all the electrical. plus non-heated garage and 40 degree days slows me down too! .Manny wrote:That's awesome is it running yet?
