Just rebuilt engine and considering putting headers on it, does anyone's have suggestions for what brand, etc

Ahhh...yes....the age old question. First off, what engine/transmission combo? Long tube or shorties? If long tube...good luck! There appears to be a consensus that nobody makes a set of "drop in" long tube headers that will work on our trucks. Most have clearance issues at the passenger side frame rail (about 1/4"-1/2" notch required), at the steering box (usually wind up denting a tube for clearance) and at the x/m behind the bell housing (center of collector is even with the x/m). Shorties or block huggers are your best bet but even those vary with the engine/tranny/steering box combination.

For the FE engines, I think people are pretty happy with the Sanderson shorties. I probably won't make that move for a while, but I will seriously be looking at the Sandersons when the time comes.

I have a 69' with a 390 that I added power steering to so I went with the Sandersons. Expensive, but worth every cent.

Shorties!!!!

If you go with long tubes...... wrap the starter motor in a heat shield material before install or else you will be regularly replacing it do to heat soak. The long tubes COOK starters!!!!

My truck is a 1970 with 302 engine with a c4 auto trans, thanks for all suggestions, even it you prefer original exhaust manifolds with flow masters or such. It's a total restoration with small cam and intake, I'd like to hear the cam with a little growl

Same truck as mine but I'm putting in a 351w as part of my build. You'll still have clearance issues with long tube although it'll be easier to compensate on a small block than an FE. If you have fab/welding skills or know someone who does, you could "tweak" some long tubes?

I know you were asking about headers, but since you mentioned Flow Master ...

I just watched a bunch of videos on YouTube comparing the different Flow Master models. Some were just techie-type videos, and others had actual sound comparisons. Overall, they were very informative. There are definitely options that can give you the growl without killing conversation in the cab. It made me wonder if I need to move the exhaust system up the priority list a bit.
