The used engine I bought to replace my junk one was pretty rusty inside. I removed the "freeze" plugs and cleaned it out as well as I could with a hose until the water ran clear.

If yer talking about an FE there is a pipe plug near the oil pan rail, one on each side, that needs to be pulled so all the rust, sludge, and scale can flushed out.

thanks guys. Ill look at that. AND DO IT. Guy at work is gonna come by and help me put it all back together again this coming weekend. He has a book and knows a little more what he is doing. Ill tell him about this as well.
