Adding Aftermarket Temp and Oil Gauge

Post by Cal2121 »

I have a 68 F250 CS with a 390 and Edelbrock intake. I have the OEM temp gauge hooked up to the temp sending unit in the intake (front of intake by the distributor) and the OEM oil gauge connects to the sending unit attached near the oil filter. I purchased aftermarket gauges that include a temp gauge and oil pressure gauge. I'd like to keep the OEM gauges working and add the new gauges. My questions are:

1) where can I put the temperature sending unit for the new water temperature gauge?
2) where can I put the oil pressure sending unit for the new oil pressure gauge?

Thanks for any input.

Get an FE thermostat housing with provision for a sender or switch.

For the oil pressure source a combination pressure switch and pressure sender. It'll have two terminals.

I saw them listed on ebay wnen I thought I needed to replace my thermostat housing. Also, check in the "For Sale" section. Ithink Basketcase might have some.

Why would you want to run 50 year old gauges when you are installing new ones

Remove the old sending units and install new ones

If you take the temp reading from the water neck it will not be accurate

It is on the cold side of the thermostat

I wanted to use the old gauges mostly because I don't like having them there and not functioning. Probably a little OCD but I like everything to be functioning if it's installed. I thought about the issue of the thermostat housing sender being on the colder side of the thermostat when it's not open. Maybe I'll see if I can switch the temp senders so that new one is in the intake.

Thanks for the input guys. I can't wait to get this new engine running.
