Trouble Mating 390 and C6

I am in the process of putting my rebuilt 390 back in my truck. I did not remove the C6 when I pulled the old engine. I have the engine back in with the flexplate bolted to the torque converter. But, I cannot get the transmission housing to fully mate with the engine block. It's about 1.5 inches away. Any ideas on the likely culprit? I've tried messing with the height and pressure on the trans and engine to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the t.c. is all the way into the trans ?

I'm not 100% sure. How can I tell for sure? The trans looks like it needs to come forward a bit for the trans mount to align with the cross member. I removed the trans cross member to make it easier to move things awound

The torque convertor should not be bolted to the automatic flywheel UNTIL the transmission and engine is bolted together.

Unbolt the torque convertor

Move the engine out of the way and secure it from moving

Place the torque convertor on the input shaft of the trans

What tnlprt said. You bolt the torque converter to the flex plate after the engine and trans are together. While it's apart, I would check that the drive hub on the converter didn't damage the pump seal.

Update: I was able to get in there and look. Everything looks okay, and I was able to get the TC properly seated. Now to connect them and get the other items put back on the engine. I can't wait! Thanks again.
