67' Ford 352 FE
- rebuilt with 20K on the clock, good compression across the board, engine gives a puff on start up out if PS side exhaust. Burns oil but doesn't smoke when running unless I let it sit an idle for 4-5 minutes. PS only.
Assumed it was valve seals, but the stock style umbrellas look good. Fire it up and the oil is flowing so fast on the PS that its pooling up and it can't drain fast enough. Drain is clear.
Take a look at the video - any advice?

I'm not an expert on FE's but I'm pretty sure there are restrictors you can install to slow the flow of oil to the heads so more goes to the crank. They were some flavor of Holley jets if memory serves. You Google anything yet?

threw a holley jet in there and it cut the flow down enough that its not flooding the valves. PS side still flowing more than the DS. I didn't find anything plugged in the DS rocker shaft either.
Valve cover doesn't leak anymore and the puff of smoke on startup is gone.

Glad you figured out the passenger side, but am I crazy in thinking your driver's side is running a bit dry? Or is that normal? I've honestly never cracked an engine open while it was running.

If the oiling is uneven on this one has it been built recently with cam bearings?? just curious of the cam bearings as that's the way oil gets up to the rocker arms on the fe's
Just another Ford fool named Dan.

Looks like your rebuild did not include new rocker shafts or rockers and it needed it. Oil should not be pouring out of the front of the shaft like that at idle. Remember, each shaft is fed from a single location, so one leak will drop the pressure on the entire shaft.
I'm sorry to say that by restricting it, you are now starving the rest of the rockers. Restrictions are to only be used with tight clearances on the shafts and rockers. You have worn out shafts and now limited oil to them.
I would replace the shafts. I would also replace the rockers, but you could install bronze bushings and hone them to size. Try new hardware without the restriction first. You may not need any restrictions. In a stock setup that doesn't turn high rpm, they are rarely required with proper rocker tolerance. The restrictors have a purpose at higher rpm.
