U Joints
I'm getting new u joints for my 69 short bed 2wd 390 f100 with a C6 automatic, and I was having a little bit of difficulty finding the right ones. I've been searching on here and am finding that most take the 1310 u joint, but some take the 1310 to 1330 combination u joint, which mine currently has. When I look it up though, I have to look under f350 to find them, why would this be? I Know those are the ones I need because that's what came out of it. Just curious why It would take ones for an f350.

Re: U Joints
Normally f-100 trucks took the 1310 and then 3/4ton 1 tons were the 1330 1350. Where is the cross joint located transmission or at the rear axle. Maybe a f250 trans swap or possibly a 4x4 rear axle???

Re: U Joints
Can you clarify "cross joint" for me please? It's a 1310 to 1330 joint on both ends of the driveshaft.Manny wrote:Normally f-100 trucks took the 1310 and then 3/4ton 1 tons were the 1330 1350. Sorry, It's a combo joint on both ends of the driveshaft.Manny wrote:Combination joint cross joint sometimes called a bad word joint.69f-100 wrote:Can you clarify "cross joint" for me please?Manny wrote:Normally f-100 trucks took the 1310 and then 3/4ton 1 tons were the 1330 1350. Re: U Joints
Then i would say the driveshaft is the un origional part in the combination. Whats the wider side (1330side) yokes or the driveshat tube. I will go ahead and say that there is nothing wrong with a combination joint once they are fresh and greased. Strange deal there. But in 40-50 years of truck repair and maintenance never suprised at anything anymore.69f-100 wrote:Sorry, It's a combo joint on both ends of the driveshaft.Manny wrote:Combination joint cross joint sometimes called a bad word joint.69f-100 wrote: Can you clarify "cross joint" for me please?

Re: U Joints
Wider side is on the yoke side. It has the flexomatic rear suspension if that makes any difference or not. I just wanted to make sure It was ok.Manny wrote:Then i would say the driveshaft is the un origional part in the combination. Whats the wider side (1330side) yokes or the driveshat tube. Re: U Joints
Your gonna be just fine. Strange deal there i would say its not factory. Then again its ford motor company.. Either way chicken or egg you get you some fresh joints and she will be ready to roll again till the next time.

Re: U Joints
Little bit of an update, the wider side up front goes to the transmission yoke. The wider side on the rear goes to the drive shaft.

Re: U Joints
So, what did you end up using? A 1330/1310 at each end? Where did you get them? Sorry, I'm looking at a (possible) new driveshaft and (possible) new U-joints in the next couple of months.

Re: U Joints
I ended up using the 1330/1310 on each end. I got them at rockauto, but you can get them at an auto parts store too. Just look them up for a f350 and make sure it's the 3.22x3.62 length u joint.colnago wrote:So, what did you end up using? A 1330/1310 at each end? Where did you get them?
