1972 Ford F100 360 carb spacer

Post by cmand000 »

Im replacing my carburetor in hope that it cure my problem with gas getting into my oil. After taking my carb off i found this 1" spacer that has a, what looks to be 1", tube off of it to the passenger side valve cover. What is this tube? I found on my new Holley carb a place that looks to be where a tube like it would go, but it is smaller in diameter. Should i get a smaller tube and eliminate the spacer? Should i get a new spacer? Or should I put the old back on?

That hose goes to your PCV valve. PCV=Positive Crankcase Ventilation. The valve inserts into a crankcase breather. It sounds like you should do some more homework as just changing things out may cause more headaches. Changing spacers and adjusting the height of the carb can reduce engine performance. I'm not a real big engine guy but I'd try to find out the what the problem is first. It may be you would be better off rebuilding the original carb and leaving things stock. Just my :2cents:

If your suffering fuel dilution i do not believe your carb spacer is the source. Thinking you might head towards your fuel pump if it's the mechanical in the timing cover. Often a ruptured diaphragm will pump gas straight into the oil pan.

I agree with Manny. Your spacer isn't going to provide a path for gas to get into your oil, unless you have major leakage issues with your carb. Even then, I don't see a path from gas to oil. I also think the fuel pump is the first thing to check.
