1970 F100 360 2BBL

Post by det45 »

I have a 1970 F100 with a 360 2bbl. How strong is the 360 and how does this engine respond to modifications? Does the 1970 360FE 2bbl come with decent heads or are they low performing heads? Lastly what do you all think about converting the 2bbl to electronic TBI fuel injection? Here's the link for the TBI system I am thinking of getting. Thanks.......det45

The engines are under cammed and low compression so they do not respond well to modifications until the compression is brought up above 9-1 or 9.5-1.

:yt:
A 360 could be made to RUN, but at that point it is not that much more to change the crank and rods and "TA-DA" .......a 390!

I am installing the Edelbrock EFI system on my F250 390 right now, and so far seems to be a simple (yet many wires) process!

I don't know if they're low or medium riser, but if I were a betting man I'd put my money on low. As for what they're worth, basically only doing exactly what they already are since for what a good set of replacement aluminum heads would cost, you probably couldn't get any appreciable gains out of them, and they'd still weigh a metric butt-ton. For quick, easy gains you probably want to sick to the easy things like headers, distributor/ignition upgrade & timing, and maybe a 4bbl. After that, because of the low compression, the 360 isn't really worth taking apart to gain much more unless you're going to replace the rotating gear with that from a 390 or a stroker kit from someone like Scat. And then you're going to want to cam it and the list just grows from there.

Might have a better idea if you would post the casting numbers on the heads .....My guess is you have C8AE-H heads

Thanks guys, right now I am deployed in Afghanistan 122 miles from where they dropped the MOAB, didn't hear it or feel the boom though. Anyway it might be better for me to keep the 360 intact except I do want to exchange the carburetor for electronic TBI for better drivability reasons. I can't wait to get back to the states so I can start working on my truck! :) By the way, I also own a 1992 LT1 corvette with only 14k original miles on it, that's my going out car......LOL!

The heads are pretty close to medium riser on the intake side as far as port location. On the exhaust side the ports are lower than typical and depending on header/gasket you can have issues with seal .

All assuming it has stock heads

If you are on a tax free deployment I'd pick up a pair of Edelbrock's and find a 390 rotating assy to really wake the engine up.
