Emissions decal

Post by ddcrim »

Painted my valve covers on my 74 F250 with a 360 engine. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find a replacement
emissions decal for a 1974 360 engine. they have them for the other years...got ideas on this? Thanks.

Unless having an emissions decal is a necessity in your locale for registration, I can't imagine why anyone would actually want or seek such a thing.

Ren, many of us here strive for completely restoring back to original condition including decals, markings etc. It's just our OCD expressing itself. :D

If it's OCD then I really need help because I take the details to the extremes when I restore things......like my 1963 Johnson outboard.......hunted for months for the correct bolts even though the hardware store is only 4 blocks away......... :help:

I understand, though do not suffer from the "OCD thing". But the beginning of the emissions era was the harbinger of a dark, although necessary time in the automotive world.

I would think that any tidbits, widgets, furbelows, remnants or reminders of that would be cheerfully forgotten or hastily shown to the nearest garbage can.

While I do agree with you on the "dark time" as you put it, I just removed the last remnants of the air pump system - the tubes going into the heads - off my 360. All those parts are in a labeled box in storage because the day may come where I want to to a total factory restoration completely back to stock. And those parts, although being something none of us really liked, were still part of the way the truck rolled off the assembly line and for it to be correct would be reinstalled. Pretty much all I'm trying to say is whatever floats your boat - go for it.......but we all have our reasons for our insanity..... :D

Yes, but where do I get a decal? Just because I have old-hymers disease, I have not forgotten that I asked. I just forgot
what I asked for that's all. I still chase the ladies too, but I forget why.

Oh no, correct hardware is a must, i completely agree. I go to the wrecking yards just to salvage oem hardware. My father at one point in his collection had a 1957 Cadillac barritz convertible. Truly intricate and expensive machine. ( i do not miss getting them Rochester 4bbls to work correctly together)
Not to mention the air cleaner setup, carbs, and intake manifold cost more than most of the basket cases ive bought. Very pretty car had a frame off at some point, but,,,,,, BUT,,,,,,, somebody had exchanged most of the body hardware with light grade shiny ACE hardware bolts. Everywhere you looked cheap hardware store nuts and bolts and washers. Ruined the car. no way it could ever compete legitimately with other on par vehicles at pebble beach.

uh, oh boy, bring it back to the topic. decals, I got mine from dennis carpenter I believe, I would try the usual suspects, macs, lmc, dennis carpenter, maybe flashback f100s would have a idea which way to steer you.

Right.....back to the subject........ :D Also if you have a printer in town that does signs and stuff like that they may be able to help you out. I needed a special decal that went under the seat on a Schwinn bicycle that I restored and the printer we have here made me an exact copy of it........couldn't tell the difference between them except the condition. Another option if you can't find one anywhere.........

I understand the insane notion of meticulously restoring a machine to factory specifications for no other purpose than to make it "right" or as it left the factory.

But why on earth would that also include very easily remedied defects, mistakes, or design flaws?

For example: Alot of the emissions reduction attempts of that era did little more than to make simple things more expensive, complicated, and unreliable. Not to mention significantly less efficient and powerful than they were. These were arguably defects.

An emissions decal is nothing more than a visual reminder and confirmation as to why the engine runs like crap and has no power.

If the vehicle left the factory with a dead salmon stuffed under the seat, (almost) nobody would replicate that.

When I restored my truck 6 years ago, Dennis Carpenter had a decal kit for engine compartment, it included all decals, you had to pick which engine you had, 352,360, or 390.
