Fuel tank option???
I was working on a 2015 Ford F-550 and I was wondering......"Why can't I use the DEF tank on my '71 as a fuel tank?". It is not very big, maybe 6 gallons.....but the brackets for it make it easy to install on any truck. Maybe install 2 or 3? Maybe one from a semi? Has anyone come across this?

Re: Fuel tank option???
I think the definitive answer was a '69 Mustang tank between the rails in the back. Most cut holes in the bed but I would relocate the fill to the side and go through the bed wall.
I'm thinking about using a 90's F series front tank on my F350 and plumbing it through the cab fill point. Looks stock but opens up room in the cab.

I would like to keep the spare tire in its place with a newer winch style like one of a 2003 F-150.

I'm also planning on a similar spare tire setup like you're talking about. My original plan was to install an F250 auxilliary tank setup. http://www.fordification.com/tech/auxfueltank.htm. The tank itself is available from the usual vendors. It's the skid plate and brackets that are scarce. I feel like I can duplicate or improvise those. Otherwise I've been kicking around a 15-16 gallon fuel cell mounted between the frame crossmembers behind the cab. Summit has one that I believe will fit. https://m.summitracing.com/parts/sum-290111can. I think it won't hang below he rails so much as to interfere with the driveshaft or exhaust. Just have to improvise mounting and heat shielding from the exhaust.

The F250 aux tank looks nice. And to think that I used to own a 71 Sport Custom Camper Special.....back when I didn't know what I had!
