Exhaust manifold gaskets.
What's the difference between the exhaust heat shields and the exhaust manifold gaskets on the 390's? Were they equipped with both? All the supplier list both items.
1967 F-100 4x4 custom cab.
Another 67 F-100 4x4 custom cab.
2016 F-150 Eco-Boost 2.7 liter. (It will smoke the tires!)
1972 F-350 Sport Custom cab & chassis.
1972 F-250 Explorer Special, Camper Special.
1971 F-100 custom. 302, C-4, p.s. p.b. factory 65 amp alternator with transistorized voltage regulator.
Another 67 F-100 4x4 custom cab.

I always had good luck with just the heat shields coated on both sides with copper anti-seize ....But only if the heads and manifolds mating surfaces were surfaced to be sure they are flat

Ditto, if flat they don't 'need' gaskets. If they aren't, gaskets won't help for long.

If not flat, consider Remflex gaskets.

How "flat" is "flat"? I had the heads reconditioned a few years ago, in prep for a rebuild. I doubt if he replaned the exhaust surface (he concentrated on new valves and hardened seat inserts). But I don't recall them being rusty, either. They are probably average, for a 50-year-old engine, which means they're probably good but with minor pitting. Is this okay, or am I going to need gaskets, or am I going to need resurfacing? I know; without pics, this is somewhat subjective. I'm just looking for a SWAG.

If the exhaust flange only has minor pits, some high temp RTV is doable but ya gotta let it fully cure so it doesn't get blown out.
