c6 Transmission help
I have a c6 in my 1969 F100 and it drives and might slip a bit but I am sure, my issue is that from a stop and in Drive my 8 year old can run faster than it can drive when I punch it, on the freeway I really struggle to get to 60MPH. Does anyone know what could cause this?
Fluid is leaking from bellhousing but I keep it where it needs to be.
Engine: 302 out of a 71 Torino
Thank you

Re: c6 Transmission help
When you put the gas pedal down, does the motor increase RPM's before the truck starts going faster? That is a classic indicator of trans slipping.
On a side note, are you sure that the oil leaking from the bell housing is trans fluid? When the rear main seal is leaking, motor oil will leak from the same area.

Re: c6 Transmission help
I had transmission fluid coming from what looked like the inspection plate on my C6. It turned out to be the O ring on the transmission dipstick luckily I already had the transmission cover inside the cab off. it would have been a pain to get at the bolt on the back of the engine that holds it in place. Here's my story. http://fordification.com/forum/viewtopi ... =2&t=83859

Re: c6 Transmission help
Wow, if your trans is leaking out the front seal area and slipping....it's time for a new or rebuilt trans friend. Don't waste any money on changing the filter or anything else. There is no miracle cure for this other than replacement.

Re: c6 Transmission help
A little better description of what is going on would help.
Filter is in the pan, if you drop the pan and don't find it full of clutch material a filter and a band adjustment might be worth a try.
My guess is that a overhaul is in your future though...
You sure it is a C6?

Re: c6 Transmission help
It does not feel like it is slipping, what it feels like is I can punch it and instead of the truck taking off with all the power and speed I would expect, it feels like I am in a granny gear or something, however if I put it in first gear it performs as I would think. My 4 cylinder Mitsubishi has more power.
C6 Automatic.
Thanks

Re: c6 Transmission help
Interesting. So, if you put it in 1st and start off then manually shift it to 2nd & 3rd its alright?

Re: c6 Transmission help
I haven't actually tried to change gears once in first, didn't know if it would handle it. I am garaged until my power steering pump arrived then I will try it.

Re: c6 Transmission help
This thing looks like it was leaking from everywhere, is that possible?

It has 17 bolts and the pan looks like the one in the picture.

Re: c6 Transmission help
Is it changing gears ok? If your modulator valve is bad.... or the vacuum line to it is leaking, it won't downshift to first gear, causing it to take off in second gear and make it feel like you are pulling a tank trying to leave from a stop.
