Yeah that's what I meant, not sure if they're same bolt pattern or not for gearbox

Back in the early 90's, I bought several irrigation pumps from a farm auction. Here is what I learned from the experience;
1. While the FE/FT block engines are similar, that is where it ends. None of the internal parts interchange, the bolt pattern for the Transmission is bigger around on the FT, the Crankshaft Flange is larger as well.
2. Most FT engines used sodium Cooled Exhaust Valves, which after time, Stress crack. when they fail, you're walking!

3. Most of the replacement parts are non-existent now, more so than the FE engines.

There should be a metal tag attached somewhere on the rig that will tell you what you have. I do have some manuals from the Mid 60's, so if I had a serial # I might be able to help Clarify.

Thanks for the replies guys. Have joined the FE forum, just waiting for the validation thing so I can start a thread.

Thanks Pete, there is a metal tag attached to the rear however you can't read any of it.

Ok you do have a FT. There is differences and similairitie's.
First the differences.
1. The distributor has a larger bottom shaft to accommodate the 5/16" oil pump drive. And will not fit into a FE block. Nor will a FE distributor fit into a FT block without a bushing.
2. Heads have a unique exhaust bolt pattern for the FT. Exhaust crossover ports on FT are in center of head unlike the FE which are offset of center. The intake manifold is different because of this. Allthough the FT heads will bolt to an FE block the exhaust and intake manifolds will have to be FT also.
3. Crankshaft front snout is larger on a FT which means the timing cover is different. The FT cover will bolt on to FE but FT crankshaft has to be used.
4. Water pumps are different. Some FT pumps bolt directly to timing cover and others are like yours. A two piece pump. The two piece FT pump will bolt to an FE block, as will the FE pump will bolt to the FT block if used with a FE timing cover.
5. Oil pan is a full sump style on the FT engines. Usually won't clear cross members in most vehicles. It will how ever bolt to FE block. The FE pan will bolt on to FT block, but you'll most likely have to change the pick-up tube on the oil pump to the FE style.

Ok now the similaritie' s.
1. The block is the same between the two, accept for distributor bottom bore size. Yes the trans bolt pattern is the same between the two. Your engine appears to have an adapter for a generator to bolt to. The motor mount bolt pattern is in the same location on both.

The internals will fit in either, but the FT pistons will be a low compression design. Not really suitable for a road driven vehicle. The FT would work but to make it would be far more costly then it would be to just rebuild the engine you already have.
