390 pushrods too long after xe262h swap
Just finished a in frame "rebuild" 1967 f100 390. New .060 over pistons, rings, main and rod bearings. Engine was a previus rebuild and was in good running condition except for a bent connecting rod. Left engine in frame, pulled intake (cast iron 4v) , pulled heads, dropped oil pan (yes it can be done without jacking engine), pulled camshaft. Honed cyl with deglazer, new pistons/rings/rods, new comp xe262h, new old stock OEM Ford lifters (designed for 9.59 pushrod), Holley street dominator intake. Had blue felpro .051 compressed head gasket, I replaced with OEM steel shim gasket .015-.020. to hopefully gain some compression. I replaced push rods with 9.56 rods to hopefully compensate for thinner head gasket. When I went to fire it up, 0 compression . I matched dot to dot on timing gears ATDC. Factory non adjustable rockers. I shimmed rocker stands .030, still 0 comp. I shimmed a total of .075, no comp, I backed off each rocker stand bolt 3/4 turn, got 60psi. I'm certain heads have been previously cut, and my math says block cut about .020. Why would thinner gasket cause such difference, or is the comp cam on a larger circle to start with, or is the .500 lift now a problem. Engine had 130psi before "rebuild". What variable am I missing? Will adjustable rockers have enough adjustment to compensate?

Re: 390 pushrods too short after xe262h swap
I ran in to this years ago and IIRC there are two different height of lifters for the FE's....But this was MANY moons ago so you might start looking in this direction..

Re: 390 pushrods too short after xe262h swap
Lifters roughly measured the same as the old ones. My original 352 had different lifters and longer push rods 9.62. I tried some of the 9.62 pushrods in the 390 before I tore it down trying to locate a noise, and the truck would not run. The .030 longer rod kept the valves open. That should have been compensated by the lifter , so I am inclined to believe I was already at the point of being at the limit of adjustment to start with. Then I go changing things. Cam, head gasket, lifters, and shorter pushrods are the variables.
