Transmission Paint ?
About to clean up this transmission and paint the bell housing and the body of the transmission is there a special kind of paint and primer? does it have to be high heat?

Re: Transmission Paint ?
Not from what I can find. I have a C-6, which I hope to rebuild this spring/summer, and I'm not planning on needing high-temp paint. I just checked the Eastwood web site.

Re: Transmission Paint ?
I just did my NP435 and Dana 24 and this what I did. On a side note I did the bell housing and engine block the same way.
1. Paint stripper and wire brush to remove previous owners paint.
2. Rust-Oleum Engine primer
3. Rust- Oleum Engine Paint.
May be more than needed but while it was out of the truck the few extra bucks for 500 deg paint seemed worth it.

Yes, Lowes carries this paint and so does Walmart and Tractor Supply. I purchased mine at Tractor SupplyGodspeed128 wrote:Does lowes have that paint?

Re: Transmission Paint ?
The transmission was not painted from the factory as a rule (at least C4 and C6). It was left as bare aluminum. It usually had a couple of grease pencil letters and numbers on the side from the production line. However, often times they're dirty so people paint them and it's very hard to get them back to bare aluminum.
If you do want to paint it, a good engine enamel should so the trick. It will get hot, but not as hot as the engine block or manifolds. From my experience and from looking at Mustang Concourse restoration guides, the closest acceptable Ford Blue color for the later model engines of our trucks is PlastiKote 224. it's very close to the color my stock motor and air cleaner had on it. It's in between the two Ford blues that Duplicolor has. I think those two are pretty wide of the mark.
My motor is Plastikote 224 and I'm very happy with it.
