Hi. Thanks for the compliment.
I used 73-79 F-Series engine perches and mounts.
I have a spare hood that I'm going to cut up and use for a guinea pig. Once the scoop kit gets here I'll put the donor hood on and make some measurements. I'm going to modify a stock air cleaner base to compensate for the engine offset and to obtain the correct carb-to-hood height. I'm also going to incorporate the K&N filter and filter lid for better flow.

So, after waiting for the scoop assy for almost two years, it finally arrived last night. Unfortunately, there is a scratch in the alloy scoop from the manufacturer that someone attempted to touch up. So, the scoop assy will be returned for an exchange.

But I took a few measurements. Not only will I have to fabricate an offset in the air cleaner base to compensate the engine offset, I'll also have to offset the base forward because the carb on my truck is much closer to the cowl than the carb to cowl measurement on the Mustangs.
It will be interesting.

OK, this is getting comical, now. I sent the scoop back, waited another 10 days and today I received another damaged Shaker Hood Scoop assembly. This one will also be sent back :x :x :x

Man....That's some AWESOME quality control!!!

This is great advertising for them.

You can buy used ones in better shape.

Guess I'll look elsewhere.

Well....? Its been a month....any progress??

Where do you think you'll make up the 2" to center it? Cut the top edge off the base plate, move it over, weld it up?

Just got a new scoop two days ago. The offset will be built into the base, where it attaches to the carburetor. Also, the scoop assembly will have to be modified to move the alloy scoop forward, away from the cowl. The carb on a truck is a lot closer to the cowl than is the Mustang.

Yes, damage-free :)
Not sure yet how far I'm going to move the scoop forward. I'll have to see what looks the best. I should be getting the truck over to the shop this week.

That's gonna be a real PITA to fabricate, good luck. An old ratty hood that you can cut big holes in might make it easier to fit the scoop to the carb.

Thanks, I have a spare hood to sacrifice. I have another in storage that has been blasted, straightened and primered.

I now believe this is the only way to go on my '72....be it same as yours or used Torino.


What size are your rear tires?

I'm trying to get something done on my 63 Unibody right now so I haven't done anything on the 72.

When you get a second, could you post pics of the scoop, and what all it comes with please.

Some sellers say it does not include mid plate flapper, making it basically just a cold air intake.

If so, would it accept the actuator and flapper, etc?

The base is fibreglass, correct? could a factory metal one be used in place (with tabs welded on?

You can buy fiberglass or metal. I have the alloy scoop with the metal flapper plate. Also comes with the rubber hood seal. Mine is the C9ZZ-9600-D. http://www.drakeautomotivegroup.com/Sto ... px?wid=141
Does not come with actuator, flapper or rod but they can be bought separately and installed.
The part was back ordered for two years, because they were using leftover NOS actuators and ran out. The wait was because they were trying to find someone that could manufacture an exact replacement actuator. I believe they have the actuator now.
I recommend Summit Racing. I had a bad experience with CJ Pony Parts customer service.

I'm confused.
C9ZZ-9600-BB and C9ZZ-9600-S are over $100 cheaper and they come with more parts.
All are described as having aluminum scoop.
Is there a difference??
