I was wondering what the metal tab was that is next to your steering box, that protrudes out above the frame rail?

That was where the previous owner welded a flange to fit up a power steering unit. I prefer manual, so I am going back to original

Manual is OK but it's hard on column bearings. Plus, first time you get that big thing in a parking lot you'll want manual, trust me.

Oh yeah, try to mock up your brake lines before you put the cab on. I didn't replace mine, wish I had and the proportioning valve location sucks. Also check that the switch on top isn't made or the brake warning light will stay lit up. It's a real bear to center the plunger once everything is together, don't ask me how I know.

Project looks awesome and I like the idea of the tank under the rear. Really miss the space behind the seat.

Sorry about the reply submittal above.........Thanks, I was wondering what that tab was. Yeah, as for manual steering, I still have manual steering in my Highboy and it works fine and I like mine too. Every once in a while I do wish I had power steering but not enough to install it yet. Keep us posted on how the project is coming along.

My 71 had manual steering, and all my flat fender jeeps do too, I never found it to be that bad, perhaps when backing a trailer in a tight spot, but I'm not sure if that would ever supersede the freaking mess I had to clean up from the leaky arse system.

I have 10in wheels on the front of my truck and I have always wondered how difficult it would be to drive if I did what I want and swop it to manual steering. I've never liked 60s era power steering, it's either over zelous or doesn't work. With either one u can't feel the road.

A little update here, the cab has been stripped of almost all interior components (just the wiper arms to remove) so we transferred it to a larger trailer so I can lay it on its backside then sand blast the underside and then seal it with rust encapulator as a precaution, even though the amount of rust is minute. When that is done I will roll it back over, blast the inside then out side, and replace it on the frame for forward progress.

The underside is pretty clean and in damned good shape for a 1970. Tomorrow the sandblasting begins!

Wow, that cab is in good shape! I wish mine would have been in that condition when I started.
