good morning.
I need to be schooled on ford power steering pump types. would like to know what the pump with the round metal body and small filler neck used early on is referred to, as well as the late seventies early eighties one with the plastic reservoir and large filler neck. also if there is any other types I'm missing. also is there any pressure differences? will the later plastic body pump work with the power assist (hiboy)steering system? I Know custom hoses would have to be made. I have put a 302 in a highboy. I have both pumps, but only brackets for the newer pump.
Thanks in advance

Re: steering pump types
The thin necked pump is referred to as a Ford/Thompson pump.
An older version, like 65 or 66, was the Eaton pump. It has a large round neck, a screw on cap, and the reservoir mounted on top of the pump.
I think the 78 and newer pump with the plastic body, is called a C1 or C2 pump... dunno exactly.

Re: steering pump types
The Eaton PS pump with the remote reservoir was in use pre-'65.
In 1965, Ford went to the Thompson PS pump. It had a stamped steel reservoir and in '65/'66 it had a large diameter filler neck. Starting in 1967, the Thompson filler neck/dipstick tube was greatly reduced in diameter and this style pump is often referenced as the 'pencil neck' pump. The Thompson PS pump was produced from 1965-1977.
In 1978, Ford dropped the Thompson PS pump and began producing the Ford Corporate II (CII or, C-2) PS pump. It has a plastic reservoir and a large diameter filler neck/dipstick tube. The C-2 PS pump was produce from 1978 through about 2003.
