Drum Brake to Disc brake conversion

Post by ponyexpress »

Hi guys,

I plan on converting my 71 to front disc brakes by doing the conversion as listed in the technical section. I will probably be using the front suspension from a 77 F-150. The articles don't mention anything about which power booster, master cylinder or proportioning valve to use. Looking for some technical knowledge ! Please advise what would be best choice since these parts were not available. Thanks

You can find a lot of info if you go to the Board Index, click on Suspension/steering/brakes. then in search engine type in disc brake. There will be some searching to do but all the info you need is there.

I'm running a '75 F350 factory Bendix dual diaphragm booster, (new, not rebuilt) 1995 Ford Explorer 1-1/16" bore diameter MC and an OEM NOS disc/drum brake valve for an '84-'86 Ford F150/Bronco (E4TZ-2B257-B).

This setup is very powerful and with good brake modulation on my shortbed F100 Ranger. The same couldn't be said when I had manual 4-wheel drums or even when I was running this booster with 4-wheel drums --before I installed a '77 F100 front disc brake suspension.

Setup when I was running this booster with all-wheel drums and a conventional cast iron MC (and manual steering).

My setup as it currently stands today.
