steering column collar

Post by takehikes »

Put my 3 on tree on floor and trying to find a collar that would have come with a 4 speed truck (no provision for the 3 speed shift lever).
None of the aftermarket guys seem to have one.
Do I have to junk yard to find one?

Yes, unless you find a car flipper who specializes in our trucks. Or you can post a wanted ad in the classifieds here.

65-66 mustang and also dentside (73-77) trucks and 1st gen Broncos. Or so I've read. All came with original floor shift columns.

thanks for the info, I'll get one out of a Mustang and swap it out so this thing looks quasi original.

Be sure and post up for the rest of us. Like I said..."so I've read". I don't know, definitively, that they will work and I haven't where anybody said for sure either way. It'd be nice to know for sure. Thanks!

I swapped to TopLoader 4-speed and also swapped to dentside power steering. I couldn't find the floor shift style collar, so while I had my column disassembled for shortening, I modified the 3-speed collar. I removed the lever, cut the nub off of the collar with a cutoff wheel, then put a dab of filler over the hole. After sanding, primer, and paint, you can't tell that there was ever a column shifter on that column.
