rear hub removal
ok, i was going to do my brakes, on the rear but i went to take the rear hubs off and they didn't budge, i removed the outer bolts but could not get it to move, any tips or tricks to removing these old pigs.

The 3/4 tons have a floating rear axle. You have to remove the axle shaft and then the large nut on the axle spindle, the lock washer under that nut, then the nut under that. Then your hub comes off.

i could not get the outer part off, the one that has a bump that looks like the handle on a lock in lock out hub. the 6 or 7 bolts hold it on. has a metal spacer or gasket behind it?

Give the center a whack with a hammer to break it loose.
On mine it has studs with nuts rather than bolts and I have to hammer it to get the coned lock-washers high enough on the studs to pull them out with a screwdriver or pliers. On rear ends with bolts this isn't a issue.
Either way those bolts or studs are all that hold that shaft in place.

Here's a strange, I know Ford went to outboard drums, (pull the drum off the hub separately), in the late 80's, but here's an old one without the drum:

I wasn't clear on that second pick, that one is a Ford according to the site I found it at.
That's how mine is too, so you need to pound on the end enough to get the coned shaped split washers loose enough to pull off then the axle shaft will slide out.

Those cone washer thingys can be a pain. What I've done before is to remove the nuts first while the truck is still on the ground and then rock it back and forth in park. It works the little guys loose enough to pull out.
