what does "L4" mean on the rear differential page?

Ha the differential is coded to a 67 68 mustang 4.30 gear 31 spline. I understand the L stands for limited slip just wasnt sure what the L4 stood for. I was guessing it stood for a Locker type.

Locking, 4 pinion (spider gears) as opposed to locking with 2 pinion gears.

The Equa-Lok differential (1957-1968) came before the Traction-Lok (1969-1986).

The Equa-Lok only came as a 28-spline differential with 2 pinion gears.

The much improved Traction-Lok came in either 28 or 31-spline versions and with 2 pinion differentials or, the much stronger 4 pinion differentials.
