anyone close to Texas have a good block for 300/240?

Have you tried Car-Part.com? It's a start to locate a salvage yard that has one. I watched an episode where Gas Monkey Garage dumped one in a container from a fully extended fork lift:( Made me cringe.

had not encountered that web site before.
None in Texas, but some in OK.
I have located a 81-86 era 300 block in San Antonio (about 75 miles) and a someone from FordSix said they have one (unmolested) and that is about 90 miles away.
I am hoping to get him to hang on to it until I get to start this guy up and do the initial burn in.
