Hey all,
I am new member. I recently acquired a 1965 short bed with a 240 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree. My short term goals are to make it a safe and reliable driver to use for home improvement projects. So far I have redone the brakes including new lines and rebuilt the carburetor. My current issue is the column shifter. It was super sloppy and often would not shift from 1st to 2nd. I pulled the column to find a broken shift tube amongst other broken parts thanks to a botched repair by the previous owners. Thankfully, I live near Fantasy Fords and picked up another column for a good price. I am worried I will soon run into similar issues and I am not a fan of the column shift. I am 6'2" and shifting into 1st and 3rd knocks my knees. I am interested in converting to a Hurst floor shifter. I was hoping that some of you who have done this conversion already would not mind posting some pics of the linkage and write about the experience. This is probably a newbie question but did you center the shifter on the transmission tunnel or closer to the driver? Thanks for sharing the information and experience everyone.

Re: Hurst floor shift conversion
Had issues with my column too so I put it a Mr. Gasket floor shifter from my local parts store. What a POS! Wore out in less than 2 years. Went ahead and bought another one. Heck, it was only $60. Dumb idea. That one wore out quickly too. Gave up and rebuilt my column and she worked perfectly. If you're going to do it, either try to find an OEM shifter from a salvage yard or spend the money on a quality shifter like the Hurst. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/huu-3 ... 100-pickup You will also have to get the installation kit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/huu-3 ... 100-pickup Installation should be easy, the Mr. Gasket was anyway. I had to offset the shifter slightly off center toward the passenger side. With that Hurst kit, you might have to lower the rear of the transmission to get the mounting bolts on top of the tranny unless you already have a removable tranny hump.

Re: Hurst floor shift conversion
Thank you kindly for the reply. I received my new steering coupler in the mail yesterday. I'll put in the other column this week. If it is a bust too, I'm installing the Hurst shifter.
