69 king pin

Post by yecoyote65 »

I am rebuilding the front end of my 1969 Ford F 100... the king pin fits nice and snug through the I beam. but with the bushings in the spindle it is so tight I cannot drive it through the bushings..any help on getting the right bushings?

I took my beams to a machine shop and had the brass bushings installed. I'm sure they had to fit the king pins to the bushings by reaming. When i inserted the pins with the new bushings in the beams, they slid thru fairly easy.. Maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in and help you.

:yt: Me, too. The bushings have to be reamed to .001 over the diameter of the kingpin.

Yes, the bronze bushings will have to be reamed to fit. Don't attempt to hammer them through! The plastic (delrin) bushings go right in and don't need reaming. This is what my 67 f-100 had from the factory.

Thanks for the information that helps a lot. The other problem I got is the previous owner tore up the threads on the spindle for the grease cap any ideas what size the threads are to try to tap them back out to put caps back in?

My kit from NAPA came with new caps. I think they are a pipe thread for the grease zerk.
