any way to find out how many spines are on my axles without pulling them?

Post by MrSmokey »

i am wanting to run a lockright/aussie locker on my dana 60 rear, its the original axle, 1972 highboy. tag says it has 4.10s

is there any way to tell if it is a 30, or a 15 spline without opening everything up?
or should i ask, what is the easiest way to figure out what spline count my rear axles are?
what about the spine count up front on the 44, in case i want to run one up there?

i am going to put lockrights in my volvos, and get one or two for the truck at the same time and see if someone will give me a deal for buying 3 or 4. they seem to be the way to go, and easy at that.

thanks for the help!

hmmm, well that locker wont work out for that. i guess i could just weld it.
i really dont want to get more involved than a lunchbox, minispool, or welding it right now.
i do not think a minispook is available for the dana 60 though.

any idea on the front spline counts?

so, i did not know there was such a thing as a bill of materials number, or BOM. now i do.
turns out i have DOIA-AY, and 603196-8
1971-1972 F-250 4x4 rear Dana 60.
16 spline shafts. 4:10 open differential...

what have folks done with the 16 spline? anyone know if the half shafts are swappable with later ones?
edit, i think they are swapable.
