Any one got any tips on quality ring and pinion sets, preferably made in the USA?
Specifically for a 3.89:1 for a Ford 9"
Yukon?
Motive?
Looks like Mosers 3:89 is not US Gear and may be offshore?

Richmond gear, available from Summit Racing or Jegs......should be abundant for a 9 inch.

Re: Ring and Pinion sets (USA made brands)?
I guess I just need to stop reading the internet.
It seems like all gears suck, pick a brand and it is alternately the best ever (and probable supplier to FRPP) and then the worst ever Chinese junk...
Some claim Richmond was sold a few years back and is no longer good.
Motive seem to at least come from the "first world".
Heck maybe I'll just run the factory 3.50:1...
The thought of just throwing a Detroit Locker in it, painting it and throwing it back in the truck is becoming increasingly alluring...

If you mean a new one because I think they are NLA. If you mean a used one - that is an option if doing the junkyard crawl I guess - but I've looked before and they aren't common in these parts.tnlprt wrote:Why not a factory Ford one
Some claim Motive made/makes FRPP gears.

US Gear is US made, although distribution is limited. Strange Engineering does sell a "US Strange" Ford 9" 3.89 gear, I don't know if that is the US Gear that they've rebranded as theirs.

Gleason ring and pinion. I put a 3.25 set in a 68 Mustang and was extremely pleased. You can get a screaming deal on E-bay from some nascar race teams that are very little used. Go on E-bay and search for Gleason ring and pinion. There is a 3.89 polished set on there right now for $135 plus shipping.
