Dumb question time but how much travel do you have on the pedal before you feel the clutch? Hard going into gear sounds like the clutch isn't adjusted correctly but usually that happens in all the gears when you are stopped. If hard to go into one gear while moving it's a synchro or shift linkage problem, not necessarily the clutch. I also wonder if the tranny isn't low on fluid as that would cause both complaints...

Oh yeah, you didn't post the combo so it's hard to T/S over the interwebz...
