to flush, or not to flush (c4)

Post by Craigerf100 »

Hmm I'm conflicted by some advice I got. to not do maintenance on my c4; Since I have no idea when the last "tune up" was... or if there ever was. I've had the truck for 2 years.
I was told it might mess it up if it wasnt properly maintained in the past. Something about the shavings in a warn transmission when flushed can make it not get into gear or shift.
see i bought a deeper pan for my c4 transmission. Planning on towing and hauling. Want to keep it cool. But now I'm afraid to change the pan, filter and fluid like I planned.
If it ain't broke don't fix it, u know.
Looking for some advice, experience or just your 2cents. Thx

Who told you that? You mean flush it with one of those silly machines at the quick lube or common trans service?
Drop the pan, drain the converter, adjust the bands, install your new pan and refill it with Type F. Make sure to check out what type of sediment is in the pan, this will give you an idea of the overall condition of your trans.

On the newer aods they say do not use a flush product. A change of the fluid should be finethough.

while you dropping the pan, why don't you install a drain plug?
I know there are kits to do it. Planning on installing one on mine when I get to that point.

As long as the fluid level is maintained at the same spot on the dipstick you'll be fine. If you don't compensate for the deeper pan and only add 'X' quarts of fluid the level may be too low for the filter to pick it up and you'll not go far.
