trans bolt pattern question.

Post by zbo2 »

Working on a Asplund Chipper with a Ford 360 in it... the Asplund drive unit that bolts to the bell housing has a 8 1/2" spread side to side and 4 11/16 top to bottom..... is that a normal Ford manual trans bolt pattern?
Trying to figure out if I can swap a newer 302 into this unit as the 360 engine is shot but it all hinges on if that drive unit will bolt up to a later model bell housing...thanks Joe

All I can tell ya is the Ford FE has the "wide bell pattern" - 6.25 inches vertically and 8.5 inches horizontally. I don't have measurements for the narrow pattern.

I was able to bolt a manual transmission from a small block Windsor to my FE bellhousing and, of course, the trans that was bolted to my FE will bolt to the Windsor bell that came with the trans I swapped in. I want to tell you that it will swap but, it may depend on which transmission the drive unit you have is based on, year, etc.
