4 speed on the floor steering column

I have the column and wanted convert my other truck to the 4 speed except the cab rusted and fell on the column wrecking the bottom portion of it. Anybody ever tried to use all the upper parts of a non shifter column onto a shifter automatic column. Thought I'd ask before I tackle this. Thanks
