Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
I know these are going to be tough to find, but if by chance someone out there has these, I would never know unless I ask.. So here goes...
I am looking for the bumpside rear step carpet trim that goes inside each rear door at the edge of the step in front of the rear seat. These are probably just as hard to find as the rear door surrounds, but I gotta try. I actually need these to help clean up my carpet install in my crew cab. Anyway, here are pictures of what I am looking for to help with my description:
I know my chances are slim, but does anyone by chance have these or have a lead on where I might find some?
Thanks!!

if no one has those would a carpet/flooring outlet have something that is close?

Re: Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
I am not sure. I know they also had something similar in the dentside crew cabs and I may expand my search to see if I can find a dent set. I saw a picture on an old ebay auction for a pair and they looked very close only they looked to go a little longer and possibly under the seat further. So those would be fine too. The way I did my carpet with 2 pieces, they overlap right at the front of the step where that piece would go. My front carpet (fitted for a standard cab) has a finished edge that I want to keep, but it goes over the step and needs to be cut to conform with the step. But if I cut the finished edge, it will be obvious looking and that is where these pieces come in. I could cut the edge right at the trim piece and then the trim will cover the unfinished edge that will be held down under this. Then I will not have any loose carpet hanging over where the step is. my back piece in the crew area, I cut to conform to the step and then the front part is under the front carpet since it is unfinished. The whole setup looks great, except right at the front of each step where I don't have these trim pieces...
Wow that was a long explanation... Tomorrow when I am out there at my truck, I will try to remember to take a picture of what I am dealing with right now so you can see what I am talking about. Simple point, these trim pieces or something similar would solve my only carpet issue.

Good luck on your quest. They surely are a rare gem for crew owners. I'm curious about the dent side ones to let us know what your research finds out. Also post pics of your standard cab carpet I ordered one for a standard cab and want to see how it fits in a crew as I haven't had the chance to test fit it yet for myself.

Re: Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
The inside of my truck is littered with tools and wiring stuff right now, but when I get it cleaned up, I will take some pictures. Maybe tomorrow. If you go back a few pages in my build thread, there are some pictures of the carpet when I laid it out and fitted it, and then in the other pictures since, you can see some of the carpet and how it sits. I bought mine from stockinteriors.com and ordered the standard cab carpet with the CD high hump. I also ordered it for a cab without the gas tank so there is extra carpet on the back end and they finish the edge as well. I then ordered 3 feet of extra carpet and jute for the back part of the cab. Their surplus carpet that you order by the foot just happens to be wide enough to go across the entire cab and down the step with a little left over on each side. So you can cut it to fit side to side and the 3 feet of length is perfect to cover the entire back flat part of the cab. You end up with about a 8 inch overlap. I have my front carpet over the back carpet since the front carpet has the finished edge.
Here is my build thread on the page where it first starts showing carpet, so you can get an idea... There are more pictures on the forward pages as well from this point: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &start=270

Re: Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
My truck did not have pieces like this. It had two separate pieces of aluminum angle per side of the truck. The ends are tapered and the screw holes dimpled for the countersunk screws. I planned to replicate them with slightly larger pieces from the hardware store, but after installing my carpet, I have put it off because the carpet does not conform well to the rear step edges.
For the carpet overlap, I used the finished edge of the rear carpet and overlapped the front. I notched the front carpet in the areas you said, around the step for fitment, but it's underneath the rear carpet so you can't see it.

Re: Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
I would have done that, but my rear carpet did not have a finished edge, so that was not an option for me. I hope to find some pieces like this and then notch my front carpet and hide the edges under this trim.

Was it not made by ACC? Or did you order it uncut on the ends?

Re: Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
The carpet is made by ACC and I bought it from stockinteriors.com. But I ordered the front kit which was finished and then for the back half of the cab, I ordered 3 extra feet of the same carpet and 3 feet of jute. That just came as 2 large rolls of 3 foot by something (wider than our cabs) and was unfinished on both ends. The rear carpet I ordered was not a kit of any type. What did you do for your back half?

Re: Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
The back half is reproduced by ACC as well. Normally it is listed for '73+ Crews, but NPD has it listed for 67-72 Crews as well. The back section is molded and finished on the front end, and maybe the back, but not the sides. I had to cut the sides to fit. The back end is long enough to go halfway up the tank, and I left it long and glued it down to the sound deadener I have on the tank. I plan on making a piece to completely hide the tank from the top down, possibly starting with some headliner trim, similar to like the bucket seat trucks had.
I originally purchased a set from Broncograveyard.com I believe it was. They had it the cheapest and listed for dentsides, but after I got a chance to fit it, it didn't fit well and was too late to send back. I called NPD and got a money back guarantee that their set would fit, so I ordered a second set from them. The one from NPD fit about the same, but I was happy enough with it once I finished cutting and fitting. I could have sent one set back to NPD, but I'm happy with having a spare. Both were made by ACC.
I'm sure ACC will sell you just the back section if you call, because others have said they will leave the ends uncut and long if you ask them to.
Also, where did you get those pictures and info from for that rear trim? I'm slightly skeptical that those are original, as I've never seen any mention or pictures of that style, but I have of the style my truck came with.

Re: Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
I am not going to order a back half carpet kit because I ordered the 3 extra feet and cut it to what I needed it for. I am happy with what I have. I just want to clean up the corners of the steps where the 2 carpets overlap and the trim pieces are the key to that.guhfluh wrote:The back half is reproduced by ACC as well. As for the pictures, they are the trim pieces in another member's truck who lives by me. I have seen quite a few crew cabs and I have only seen those trim pieces in 2 of them now. Usually they are missing. But that last crew that I saw those pieces in, they looked identical. What do yours look like?
The picture that gregamorton just linked to are exactly the same as well and it is next to the pillar piece (which I have) that goes over the weatherstripping on the lower pillar and down to the rear door sill. So that is 3 I have seen now in that style (thanks gregamorton!).
Now if I could just find some for sale!!

Re: Looking for a unicorn, I mean, crew cab part....
I just had an idea... No idea if it will work, but it just popped into my head. I have an extra set of headliner trim with the bends in it. I wonder if those curves will line up with the curves of the step. Until I find an actual floor trim piece, I wonder if I can cut the headliner trim and use it to go over the edge and hold the carpet under it. It is not as wide as the floor trim, but it still may work. And I would be painting the trim black anyway so it is black trim on black carpet. So not overly noticeable... Hmmmm....
So with this new idea, I decided to go out to my truck and take a look along with the headliner trim. It may just work. Both are 90 degree angles. It is just that the step has no curve and it is a hard corner, while the headliner trim has a little curve to it. But I think it might work as a temporary solution. So might as well give it a try. I have no use for the headliner trim anyway, so we will see how it ends up.
In the meantime, I did not take pictures of the full carpet because the truck is still full of tools, wiring, and parts, but I took a picture of the drivers side rear step so you can get an idea of what I am talking about with my carpet. I carpeted the entire step all the way down and it came out great. But the overlap in the front is what I want to address:
Here is the front carpet pulled back so you can see how I did the step with the rear carpet:
Here is the underside of the pulled back front carpet. But you can see the finished edge all along it:
And here is the carpet as it lays now... You can see where I need to cut the overhang and then tuck the cut edge under some carpet trim.
