I have taken the axle shafts out of my 67" F100 9" rear end. I have put new bearing on and put a new oil seal on the driver side. I went ahead and put one of the axle shafts back in the driver's side. Everything seemed to fit fine. (Except the emergency brake spreader is rubbing. I'll have to grind this down some. I had to buy a different one, so I'm hoping not a big deal to grind). Anyway, back to my original question.
Are the axle shafts different lengths? I know I should have asked before putting one of them back in. I just want to be sure before I do the passenger side and/or if I need to take the one out of the drivers side again.
These are 28 spline shafts.
Thanks

In the old trucks, the axles are equal length.
In the old Ford cars, right hand axle is the long axle and the left hand axle is the short axle.

It should not be rubbing
Are you sure that you reassembled it correctly

Re: Embarrased to ask..9" rear end question
The Bendix spreader for that side is a little different than the original. At the time, I didnt' think it would matter until I put the plates back on. It actually stuck out about a 1/4" longer than the original after checking. I did some minor grinding and there is not any rubbing now.
Here is a picture before I put them on:
If you notice on the backing plate to the left, this is the one with the park brake spreader that stuck out a little more. It was rubbing on the axle just enough to have concern. I didn't have to grind much so I don't feel I have lost any integrity of the park brake spreader.
Thanks
