Need Truck FE Oil Pan

Post by Corkwheats »

I need an Oil Pan for my 71 F100 Truck w/390.

Must be a Rear Sump, and in VERY GOOD Condition.

I have just swapped oil pans again, and they both leaked!

Will consider buying a new one if the price is right.

i have a couple of 4wd pans with rear sump as well as some FT pans with rear sump. main cap bolts, dip sticks and tubes as well as oil pan pickups. are you working on a 2wd or 4wd? why the need for a rear sump?

It's a 2WD F100.

I thought they require a rear sump.

Am I wrong?

I also thought there was a difference between 2WD & 4WD.

there is a difference. the 4x4 oil pan is the rear sump pan. the 2wd drive trucks have the front sump pan.

Well, duuuuuhhhhh on me! I've even taken the puppy out, and put it back in before. I wasn't paying attention, I guess. Just went to look - front sump. Guess who's not the super dooper FE Mechanic? Thanks, guys.

So, would this work?......

It says that it's NOT for Trucks.

lol that pan will bolt in and function just fine but look where the drain plug is at. you wont be able to get to it or it will make a huge mess on your crosmember. the 2wd trucks have the drain plug in the back area of the drop down part of the pan. maybe thats the difference between 2wd truck and car pans ive been hearing about. the difference must be the drain plug location.

That makes sense. The one that is currently on there pours right down on the cross member. I always thought that was the dumbest set up. So, a true truck pan would not do that, eh? Thanks for the info.

eh, you know last time I did an oil change on my fathers truck for him ,even though on the 2wd fe oil pan the drain plug is facing the back it still made a mess. the car one has the drain off to the side and more center,it would be really hard or impossible to drain the oil and it would really makes a mess. the lesser of two evils is to make sure you get the 2wd oil pan with the drain facing the back of the engine.
