Technical drawing for F250 disc brake mounts.

Post by SoCalRefuge »

I, like a lot of you have or want to do a disc brake conversion on my '67.
Well that would be all well and good if I had a 1/2 ton. However being an F250 I suffer the challenge of finding the brackets.

Having a skill or two and a couple of pieces of machinery, I figure I can build them. Next is to find one I can pull dimension from, or find a technical drawing.

Have any of you with an F250 2WD disc brake setup, ever bothered to do something like spec out the bracket?

It's a long shot but I have to ask. Thanks.

I may be wrong as I have not done the swap myself, but aren't the disc brakes from the dentside era F250's a straight swap in, just like the dent F100 disc setups? I would think that if you get all of the needed parts off of a dent donor F250, you should be able to do a straight install like the F100 swaps.

Again, just spitballing here because I personally have never done the swap and am not sure I am correct. But I can't see why it wouldn't work... Maybe someone else can chime in here? :hmm:

Not sure what a 'dent side' is as I am new to some of this vernacular. It is a straight swap from '67 to '74 regardless of body. Some say you can go newer yet (like into '78).

The assumption that is being made is that donor trucks are readily available. That is just not true for all parts of this country. Pick-a-part places (from my experience) back here in the east don't have any dinosaurs. They long ago rusted out. People don't need the parts so they were put through the shredder. Due to supply and demand they are just not kept in the yard.

That said, I am actively looking for a donor or place to buy just the brackets. When I get the parts I will dimension them out. Maybe I will become the aftermarket source someday. ;)

Sorry, "Dentside" or "Dent" refers to the 73-79 Ford trucks (due to the concave indention down the side of the truck). Same reason the 67-72 trucks are called "bumpsides" or "bumps" because of the bump running down the side of our trucks.

Thanks for the terminology. I guess I have a 'bump'.

I have managed to purchase one of the two brake brackets needed for disc brakes on my F250. I will be mapping out all the holes. Fabricating one would be an interesting project, but probably not real cost affective.

If you are trying to use your 67 F250 spindles, you will run into a problem with the outer wheel bearing size. The 67 spindle is smaller OD on the outer end than 68+ and the 68+ disk hub is also larger ID on the outer end than a 67 drum, so unless you machine a sleeve for the 68+ disk hub and use a 67 outer bearing, the oddball size bearing your going to need is hard to find and expensive. Just a heads up. It started to get too complicated and expensive for me to pursue and was easier to just use the later spindle, hub and bearings and pay a shop to install and ream new kingpin bushings. The bearings are something like $60 or more each if you can find them.
