A couple of questions:
1. I have a 1970 (actually Oct 69) F250 360 V8 (sport custom/camper special) with a 3-speed automatic; I'm trying to identify the transmission - according to all the literature and pictures I've read it should be a C6; in visually identifying it, it does indeed have the one-piece body indicative of a C6, but I cannot find any service ID tag (see attached picture of the only ID info I could see on it) and the rear nose is much shorter than the picture comparing the C2, C4, C6 and AOD transmissions (it actually has the length of an AOD transmission) - also the pan shape and bolt count doesn't match any of the pictures here - were there variations of the C6?
2. It's started to have difficulties getting into first when first taking off. Reverse is fine right off the bat and once it's been running awhile 1st gear and on is fine (does not seem to continue having this problem at stop lights or on the highway once its warmed up). Any ideas/comments?
thanks!

Re: Transmission identification
I had the same symptoms from the AOD in my daily driver. It eventually started slipping all the time and went out completely within 5 miles. The forward clutches were toast. I am assuming from your description that it will rev like its still in neutral for a bit after you put it in drive? As for identifying the tranny, pictures might help.

Re: Transmission identification
Thanks - yes, that is what is happening, but its only for 1st (not reverse) and it doesn't seem to be a problem once it warms up, although I do not use it as a daily driver with a lot of stop and go so I can't say for sure.

Here are a couple of pix - hard to get decent ones as it was still in the truck.

Re: Transmission identification
It sure look like a C6 to me. Is this the pan shape you have?

That indeed looks like the bolt-pattern of the pan - thanks for the pic.

Re: Transmission identification
Getting back to your question about the issue taking off in first. I believe it is your forward clutches going out. Luckily, I already rebuilt an AOD for my truck. Unfortunately, I had to put it in my car, so now I have to rebuild another one for my truck. I was a bit baffled as well as mine did exactly as you describe, it cleared up when it got warm.
