Shifter jammed

I was pulling into my driveway yesterday and went to shift down to first when my shifter jammed. Couldn't get it in or out of gear (3-speed column shift.) I just popped the hood and moved the back shifter arm by hand. I am a little disturbed that this happened. The whole column was rebuilt about two years ago and not driven all that much (<1000 miles) since then. Is there something else worn that I need to look at?

Mine has done the same thing at least 3 times in a little over a year. All those times it was jammed in second. Embarrassing and seemed to happen in the worst possible locations. Very interesting when at a redlight with people behind you. Mine has the Hurst Indy floor shifter but it seems like a similar situation. I had to straddle off the road and crawl under the truck and push the shifter rods by hand. My only assumption is it's the gear shift levers on the side of the transmission itself.
But I'm on board with wanting to know what could be the problem.

A little easier on a column shift because you can reach the shift linkage from under hood to fix it. Did you re-adjust the shift rods after rebuilding the column? If one is off center a little it will happen more often.
