Some moron screwed up three on the tree to floor conversion
New to the forum. I just traded for a 1978 Ford F-100 with a 400 and a three speed manual. Someone thought it would be a good idea to do a floor conversion and I'm having a hard time finding the gears. Anyone else have this probe land have any tips. The good thing is it came with a four speed too so I will be swapping those out ASAP.

Usually it's just the linkage out of adjustment. Do an online search for the instructions of the conversion you have. On most of the Hurst stuff there was a series of 1/4" (I think) holes that you put a drill bit through to hold the handle and levers in neutral while you adjusted the rods to match the transmission lever when they were in neutral. Pretty easy once you are doing it.

Another question I have is will the bell housing on the three speed match up to the four speed.

Depends on which 4 speed and which bellhousing you have

I believe I have a T18 four speed that I'm wanting to put in and the one that is in there now is a 303.

So the more research I do on this problem the more I think that I have a POS Mr Gasket conversion kit. Absolute junk. Going to try and adjust it and get by until I can buy a Hurst Indy or Mastershift.

The linkage is right. I figured out today that the pin that run horizontally from the botom of the shifter is kinda wore. So you just have to be very precise when shifting and not cut the corners. IE when shifting from 1st to 2nd you have to hold the stick to the left, go strait up to neutral, go straight to the right and then up. Just going to take some getting used to.

If the T18 is one from a 67 or newer Ford truck it will fit your bellhousing. All of the later ones were standardized. There is only one style bellhousing for the 400 but T18's from 66 and older can have a longer input and bolt pattern. Hawkrod
