how to pull tranny in pick-n-pull (and other junk yards)
I'm trying to pull one tranny and practice my rebuild skills before i open up mine , plus i may find some gears damaged on mine so i may need a donor
the local pick-n-pull does not allpw u to use jacks or grinders for safety. they provide some frame-type cranes that can hoist upwards, but the trck transmissions are mounted below so we cant hoist them
so i wonder what is a safe and feasible way to pull a tranny in the pick-n-pull setting. anybody done this ?

You will have to pull the engine and tranny as a unit, and then separate them on the ground.

I've never used a jack to pull or stab a transmission. Pull a transmission to bell housing bolt. Take it to your local hardware store and get some all thread rod the same thread size/pitch and a couple of nuts. Also get some nylon rope about 1/4-3/8" dia. Cut 2 pcs of the rod about 8" long and thread the nuts on one end. Remove the drive shaft and tie some rope across the frame rails, under the rear of the transmission and loop around the tail stock/yoke. Pull the bottom 2 bolts of the transmission and loosen the top two. Thread the rods through the transmission into the bell housing with the nuts on the long end. Remove the top two bolts of the transmission and slide it back on rods a couple of inches. The nuts will keep it from sliding all the way off. Tie the rest of the rope to one frame rail and thread it through the top two bolt holes and make a couple of wraps around the other frame rail. Remove the nuts and slide the transmission the rest of the way off keeping the rope tight. Lower the front of the tranny to the ground. Lower the rear. Drag it out. Sounds more complicated than it is but maybe you'll catch my drift. I used to just bench press 'em up but I'm older, fatter and not near as cocky as I used to be.

If it was me, I'd pull the back seat out of a junker nearby, throw it under the truck, unbolt the tranny and let 'er drop on the seat. Then just drag the seat and tranny out.

Since the yard doesn't allow jacks make sure the truck u pick sits high enough for u to drag the tranny out from under it.

I did the bench press thing with the AODE in my Explorer about 10 years ago. About 20 years ago I pulled the assembled short block out of my 2.3 turbo Mustang by wrapping a serpentine belt around it and using it like harness around my neck. I think about them every morning when I limp out of bed.

Why don't you walk around until you find one already out the people there will pull them as unit and leave the transmission on the ground. That would be the easiest.

Another option is to pull the floor plate off, then rig a strap or decent rope to help support the transmission. You'll most likely need to pop the shifter out anyways. T19's aren't terribly heavy and are pretty stout. Just unbolt it from the bellhousing after pulling the shifter. Tie it off to the door hinges to support the weight while you undo the cross member. Then undo you rope and pull the trans out once everything lays back.

Well I'm not saying you should do this... But I have gotten in a jam a couple times at the pick a part, and needed to jack something up a couple inches. I look around till I find a car with a scissor jack still in it, and do what I have to do. Although the yard I go to is really relaxed on rules, unless you are doing something ridiculously stupid, or breaking stuff. So if you can't drag the tranny out due to vehicle ground clearance, that's an idea.
