I know how you feel on that Sarge. I have 2 more vehicles that i have to maintain and when i have to spend $$$ on them it takes away from my bump, but that is life guess.sargentrs wrote:I wish. Life hasn't been bump friendly. Just yesterday something went wrong with my DD. Either driver's CV axle or...booo...transmission. just replaced passenger CV and now the other side messes up. There goes more bump money and bump time. Planning on taking a week off work in April and spending quality time with just me and my truck.

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild-Spring is in the air!
Weather has finally gotten nice and I took the week off for some quality time with me and my truck. I've been really needing some bump time and to do "manly things". The daily grind of production schedules, parts shortages, customer expedites, etc have really set me on edge the past couple of months and this is my therapy to put things back in perspective. Since it is a little rainy I'm working in the "man cave" for the first couple of days. The goal being to strip the upholstery and foam from my Mustang buckets and prep and paint for the new upholstery when the time comes. It's a good think I decided to do that, too. I had a bottom framework where the welds had broken loose on one side and the bracket the seat slide bolts to was just hanging on by the springs. Fortunately, my stepson is going to take it to work with him tomorrow and tig it back together for me. Then media blast, Rust Encapsulator and top coat black.

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild-Spring is in the air!
That's definitely the style I'm going with. The "sport seat" foam with the bigger bolsters. I'll be using a local upholstery shop because I couldn't find the colors I want from TMI or any other vendors. Going with black with red insert panels. Like that one on the right except red where its white. He's going to do it in heavy gauge vinyl for $150/seat and I supply the foam.

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild-Spring is in the air!
Thanks, Tyler! Been a financially rough winter for me so no $$ for parts. Had to put a new HVAC unit in the house ($5000!) and then my DD crapped out so had to buy another ($1700) so I'm having to work with what parts/supplies I already have on hand. Then the only way the VP would let me off work is if I work from home some so I'm blowing 4-6 hrs/day working when I should be "bumping". Then 2 lovely young ladies (my 4 and 8 yr old granddaughters) gave me pouty face until Pawpaw consented to take them to school in the mornings and bring them home in the afternoons instead of going to the babysitters. How could I refuse that? So my goal for this week is to get the seat framework blasted and painted and then tackle the orange peel on the interior of my cab and on my doors. Hopefully I won't have to respray. If that works out, I'll get the doors hung and that'll be about it this week. If I have any time left, I want to get my SS brake lines mounted (Thanks, Brandon! ).tylerb43 wrote:Randy's back at it!! Woohoo! Can't wait to see the seats and some progress!

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild-At least it's progress
Pretty unproductive week so far. Monday, my daughter and granddaughter visited. Started removing the upholstery from my seats before they got there. Tuesday, finished removing upholstery. 5 hours of popping hog rings and ripping 48 year old vinyl, burlap and jute from wire framework that didn't want to let go. Must've been 150 hog rings on each seat half. Wednesday, media blasted the seat framework and started sanding the orange peel out of the cab (note to self, learn how to paint ) Today, finished sanding orange peel. Too cool and windy to paint today. Only going to be 65* and I really need mid-70s. Besides, the wind's blowing too hard and I don't want to get red paint all over everything in my garage. Tomorrow's supposed to be even cooler and rainy so doesn't look like that's going to get done this week. So after sanding on the cab for 3 hours, I sprayed the last of my Rust Encapsulator and gloss black on the seat frames. Another small task but at least the seat's are ready for new foam and upholstery.

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild-At least it's progress
Thanks, mcheath! Yeah, too cold. The week before I took off work temps were in the mid-70s. As luck would have it, while I was off, we had a cool front come through and it never got over the low 60s. Oh well, still got 5 weeks vacation time and the rest of the year to use it.

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild-At least it's progress
I know, right? Unfortunately my bump funding, and my time, got redistributed by my wife. I now have to build a 16' x 22' deck on the back of the house for the summer fun season. At least I'll be able to enjoy it too. But at the expense of my truck?!
