Leaf Springs

Post by Flightman91 »

2 Things.
1. What do I need to change my rear leafs? My Grandfather decided that my truck, which he wanted to be a pleasure rider, needed 1 ton springs so I might at well we riding on a 2x4 with those and the bucket seats in the truck. FYI, if anyone if looking for a pair they have the original hardware and were done in white leather and I will be selling them when I find a bench seat.

2. Could I use the Dana 60 from a Chevy? We have an old 87 plow truck and the frames days are numbered, to many Maine winters will do that to anything. I figure a Dana's a Dana. And disc brakes would be mighty nice.

Hello, I can't help with the questions, but when you are ready I would be interested in the bucket seats. Just drop me a message.

Good luck!

I am assuming you Ford is a 4x4? Although still a Dana, GM and Ford typically have different alignment of drive shafts from which side the differential is on ( I believe Ford is on the drivers side and GM's I believe the passengers side, but not certain). I'd do a bit of eye balling to check it out before progressing any further

And are you inquiring on how hard it is to change the rear springs? Or a source or price?

How hard is it to do. I have 3/4 ton ones to put in. Do I need to replace the rubber part where the bolts go through?

It is pretty easy to change out the springs, just be careful and take the weight off. I would replace the rubber with polyurethane bushings. They are not expensive, and while the springs are out you might as well.

Sorry to dig up an old post, but in regards to the leaf swapping, I'm wanting to so the opposite, but before mucking in the muddy wrecking yards here, is there a difference in width? I have a half ton with completely shot leafs, and am thinking of going to 3/4t, or maybe even 1t leafs.
Ford came first, and the Dodge Bothers made the motors for Ford. Who are these lil boys and their "Bow-Ties?"

F100 and F250 2wd leaf springs are 2-1/4" wide from 67-72 only. The through bolts on F250 spring eyes is larger than F100 springs.
