Steering Column Question for the pros!!

Post by canadiancobra »

OK So I am converting my 72 to PS and have located a 69 ps column. It is missing the steering shaft but otherwise is complete. Can I use a steering shaft from a PS 79 column and put into 69 column? Are they the same configuration? Length? The 69 column is approx. 2" shorter than my 72 manual column which after readingtech article should mean it came from SAGINAW Setup?

Any help is awesome, Thanks john

According to this tech section: http://www.fordification.com/tech/powersteering.htm

The 79 PS column should be the same length at the 69-72 column, so it sounds like you are okay...

From the tech article:

You can also use a readily-available PS column from a '73-'79 pickup. The physical dimensions are the same as the '69-'72 PS versions...just keep in mind that the wiring connection for the horn, turn signals, etc. will be different, and will require some minor rewiring to get hooked up. Most of the wires are the same color, allowing an almost quick and painless swap. Turn signal switches from various years can be interchanged by substituting the pin positions in the harness connector.
