Really loud POP or DING sound from clutch pedal.
I have a 72 f100 with 3 on the tree. Recently the clutch pedal started making this loud CLINK sound 4 out of 5 times I press or release it. The sounds like it's coming from inside the cab directly at the pedal. I looked at the spring underneath and everything looks ok. Don't see anything rubbing I noticed. Anybody have or fixed this issue? Thanks for your help,
Justin

This will be hard to diagnose without being there. But the only thing directly under the pedal(under the floor) would be the "Z" bar that has nylon bushings at each end or the clutch spring from there to the clutch arm. There's not much in the cab, just pedal pivot and clutch rod that is higher up. Where in Central Texas?

Austin area, Buda to be exact. I'll take a video of it tonight and post it to see if it will help. Sounds like an old spring getting popped...

Know where it is. My friend from high school lives there.

My truck started doing that last year - it was a crack in the rod that connects to the pedal arm and goes down through the floor to the z-bar. The rod was broken and after replacement the noise disappeared.

Do you remember what the part was called? Where did you get it. I forgot to take a video yesterday. I'll try and remember again tonight.Green23 wrote:My truck started doing that last year - it was a crack in the rod that connects to the pedal arm and goes down through the floor to the z-bar. If you want to see how it goes together. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... dals02.jpg
C&G calls it a "Clutch to Equalizer Rod" http://cgfordparts.com/wwwsectionfiles/ ... nkage.html

Only about 3 or 4 things it could be, if it's not in the bellhousing. That rod ya'll are talking about, the z-bar bushings or the pedal bushings. Have a friend push the pedal while you listen to try to nail down where it's coming from. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Really loud POP or DING sound from clutch pedal.
ha, far out, i'm in Austin too, i've got the same thing happening. I think it has something to do with a big spring that takes the slop out, being broken. The spring goes from the z-bar up to something near the engine crossmember... it was broken when i got the truck so i ditched it.
i also get a really weird rattle down there at idle that goes away when i tap the clutch pedal.
i'll check for that rod being broken, but i wiggled stuff and didn't notice any, i think its just something coming out of misalignment and maybe catching on the cab floor where it passes through.
bad cab mount bushings probably aren't helping things either.

Mine was making awful noises, and sometimes the clutch wouldn't let out properly. My cab mounts were completely collapsed, with the rotted floor laying on the frame. I'm in the process of replacing the floor and mounts. Hopefully resolves it.

Re: Really loud POP or DING sound from clutch pedal.
I saw this old thread and completely forgot that I never let yall know what the loud noise was. It was defonitly the big spring in the cab under the clutch pedal. I sprayed some garage door spring lubricant on the spring as my wife pumped the clutch pedal and it went immediatly silent. No pops and no annoying sqeeks or screeches as you let it in and out. Here's a pic of the product i used. FYI the pop sound hasn't come back yet. After about a couple months it started to squeek again.
